  • The Art Galleries at Austin Community College wanted an updated logo for a new branding campaign. The goal was to attract the interest of local artists and engage a broader spectrum of the community with an exciting new image. The Art Galleries wanted to invite a sense of creative unity among its various campuses.

Sketches

It was my job to focus on the preliminary designs for long-sleeves, hoodies, and hats. For each article of clothing, I alternated focus between having the students’ artwork or the TAG logo as the main focus. While the hoodies offered a more flexible canvas, the hat designs provided more of a challenge when trying to use the artwork. This was due to the fact that of all the artwork our team was given permission to use, there were only a select few that could be successfully incorporated without losing any of the original arts design.

Digital Ideations

Once all the sketches were successfully transitioned into mockups, the next step was to share with TAG for review and approval on what to focus moving forward with. Although there was strong interest in the hats, TAG ultimately decided to focus on the hoodies since they were more in demand among the staff given the cold environment they work in. The one design they gravitated towards was the black hoodie featuring Shailee Thakkar’s artwork.

In the examples below, the hat designs feature the TAG logo focused on the front of the hat, with the back sporting the full name of the Gallery along with Austin Community College. Meanwhile the second hat design features Stacy DeSimone's Infrared on the front with the TAG logo along the front right rim of the hat.

The hoodie designs alternate to feature Shailee Thakkar's A Minor Inconvenience on a black hoodie and Jonathan Rebolloso's No Palitos II on a white hoodie. The hoodies also include the TAG logo vertically aligned along the left sleeve and the complete gallery name coupled with Austin Community College displayed along the right sleeve.

Your Art, Your Gallery

As each member of our team continued working on the promotional pieces, our communication liaison Jennifer Hale worked closely with TAG to establish a new logo designed to create a sense of unity among other campuses as well as incorporate the growing metro rail system developing in Austin. The end result of the ‘Your art, your gallery’ logo features a line of ellipses running through the wordmark with the TAG colors acting as wayward points.

  • The main alternations made to the final design included changing the hoodie from a pullover to a zip-up, incorporating the new ‘Your Art, Your Gallery’ logo on the front left breast and the TAG logo along the right arm of the sleeve, and lastly adjusting the artwork to feature the name of the artist and the ACC logo.
